instagram tips

just started a new instagram account?

no worries, i’m here to help! below is a quick list of some of my tried and true tips on how i made my page so successful! as always, feel free to message me with any questions. good luck!

1. do not ask for shoutouts!

this is a big one! always remember that no matter how many followers someone has, they’ve worked extremely hard to earn those followers. asking for a shoutout is asking for free promotion without offering anything, and it can definitely be frustrating on both sides. what i’d suggest instead: ask for advice. people are usually more willing to help and mentor a bit if you’re just asking for advice. i do my best to respond to every message i receive that asks for advice, and a lot of other people in the social media space do the same!

2. build a community

by community, i mean mutuals (people you follow that also follow you back), people you follow that don’t follow you back, and your followers in general! when people come to my instagram page, i want them to feel like they’re a part of something bigger- a community and a movement to spread positivity. build this sense of community by interacting with everyone you follow, and responding to your followers when they comment on your photos and message you.

3. share consistent content

instead of focusing on how many followers you have, try to shift your focus to the content you’re sharing. i try to post at least three times a day, and the more i post, the more interaction my page gets. you don’t want to overwhelm your audience with content, but if you’re posting at the same times every day, your followers will get used to it and start looking forward to your content!

4. always credit creators

if you aren’t creating your own content (completely creating it by yourself, not stealing other peoples’ and putting your username on it), please make sure that you credit whose content it is. whether it’s artwork or written poetry, you need to recognize the creator of it. i always credit my sources in my captions, and if i can find the username of the person who wrote the quote i share, i include that in the caption as well. it’s really hard when you don’t get recognized for your work, so i’d highly recommend crediting where you find your content- the original author/creator and who you reposted it from.

5. the number of followers you have doesn’t matter

if you have 10 followers or 10,000, it really doesn’t matter. with my page, the amount of followers i have doesn’t really impact my mindset or intentions. i started my page to spread a bit more happiness in the world, and that’s what i did, at 1 followers, 1,000, and now 200,000. if your intentions are true and pure, the followers and recognition will come in time. i know it can be frustrating, but the very fact that you’re creating your own platform is absolutely incredible, and it’s something to be proud of.

i hope my tips and tricks helped you a bit! if you have any questions, don’t hesitate to reach out. have an amazing week, and always remember that you are loved.
