chat #9: aimee @bushelapeck

aimee also runs another one of my favorite skincare and beauty brands- bushel & a peck. i loved reading through her thoughtful answers, and i’m so excited to feature her!

tell me a little bit about yourself (where you’re from, age, etc).

my name is aimee, i live in oregon, i am 30 years old, and own bushel & a peck organic skincare.

tell me a bit more about your brand/company.

bushel & a peck organic skincare is a small batch handcrafted skincare company that i started back in 2016. i formulate and handcraft each product myself from hydrating lip balms that actually work, to mess-free body balm lotions, makeup remover, toner, etc. every single product is multi-purpose and is less than 10 ingredients.

what does social media mean to you?

social media to me means connecting with people you would otherwise not be able to. it gives you an genuine chance to interact with customers who become like friends and also is an amazing free marketing tool to small businesses who cannot afford traditional marketing.

do you see social media as more positive or negative?

i believe it’s a combination of the two. it can be an incredible thing that is used for so much good, education, awareness, and connection. however, it can also become a trap of comparison, negativity, and a place where people think it’s ok to bully or harass others because they can hide behind a screen. i truly believe that it’s all about who you follow, what type of content you produce, having good boundaries in place, and also having a community outside of social media. social media is an incredible asset and a tool but not life.

what’s the goal of your social media?

the goal of my social media is to promote my small handcrafted skincare business, to spread awareness about mental health issues, and to educate others on non-toxic skincare.

how has your career impacted your social media presence?

before I started my business in 2016, i honestly just posted photos of what i liked on instagram and barely checked facebook. i honestly wasn’t super into social media until i started thinking about my business. i have become the face of my brand and it’s what my customers and followers have come to know and connect with.

what do you do that brings you joy?

dancing, cooking, being with good friends, and singing truly bring me joy!

what’s your favorite instagram account to follow?

@heathermcmahan is my favorite! heather is a true gem and makes me giggle constantly.
