i’m so excited to share this chat with the founder of one of my favorite beauty brands! i love all of my axiology lipsticks, and i can’t recommend the brand and its products enough!
tell me a little bit about yourself (where you’re from, age, etc).
my name is ericka rodriguez and i’m the founder of axiology, a natural, vegan and sustainable makeup company. i live in oregon, eat a lot of tofu and save multiple spiders a day.
what does social media mean to you?
social media means so much to my business. we are a small, indie beauty brand so social media is crucial. when i launched axiology i had no money, so i had to find a way to share axiology with no budget. so thank goodness for instagram.
from the axiology website- “for all its progress, the beauty industry still has a ways to go. animal testing and palm oil are still a thing and knowing what’s “clean” versus “natural” is still pretty darn confusing. call us crazy but, we don’t think finding good makeup that doesn’t harm humans or the planet should be so complicated. that’s why we started axiology; to make the most ethical lipstick on the planet. it ain’t easy! but it’s totally worth the sweat because our community is growing - thanks to many of you - and little by little we’re making a difference.
do you see social media as more positive or negative?
because i’m a business owner, i see it as a positive. we are able to share our good-for-the-planet cosmetics product and get more people excited about axiology. i love small businesses and ig is one of the few ways we can find out about all the cool, creative companies out there.
what’s the goal of your social media?
to spread the word about our brand, axiology. also to inspire people- vegans, business owners, environmentalists to name a few. :)
what’s taking up your headspace? (what are you thinking about?)
i’m constantly thinking about how to do more good in the world through our business. we don’t see ourselves as a beauty company that happens to do good for the planet. we truly see ourselves as a do-good-for-the-planet company that happens to make beauty products.
what do you do that brings you joy?
i love people so connecting with friends and family is #1. also a big nature lover so anything outside is joyful- whether soaking up the sunshine reading a book or spending hours mountain or road biking. lastly, i love good vegan food so cooking up something delicious makes me smile.
what’s your outlet?
exercising! i love running, biking, and lifting weights.
